Big Bear Events Virtual Challenge
We miss our runners and our events! We miss being able to give you a medal, beer and flapjack as you ring that bell at the end of your event. Those big smiles and relieved faces! So, we're a little late to the party but we're going to be trying to do the next best thing - a virtual challenge.
What do I get?
We'll send out the medal of your choice (see below), a slice of Rugby Real Bread flapjack and a bottle of beer, cider or juice - just like at our events! We're also going to be taking 20% of the entry fee and using it to donate food to our local food bank here in Rugby to help those in the most need. If you don't wish to have the flapjack and drink use the discount code - "nodrinkorflapjack" - to receive £5 off your entry, we'll then just send a medal out to you.
I’d rather not have the drink and flapjack..
If you don't wish to have the flapjack and drink use the discount code - "nodrinkorflapjack" - to receive £5 off your entry, we'll then just send a medal out to you
How does it work?
The process is simple. You sign up to the event and we will send your package out in the post. Once it arrives it is then up to you when you run, how far you run and where you run (within government guidelines of course).
Sending the medal and goodies out before you've completed the run means you can be out on your run knowing that the medal, flapjack and drink is sitting waiting for you at home once you've finished. That extra bit of motivation!
What’s the medal like?
We are going to be using some of our favourite medals from challenges in the past for this challenge. This means there is limited supply with all of them. You'll have to get in quick before your desired medal sells out!
We are also awaiting delivery of our special Big Bear Events Virtual Challenge 2020 lanyards too!
What does it cost?
The cost including delivery is £20.
If you do not want to have the flapjack and drink use the code “nodrinkorflapjack” for £5 off your entry.
20% of your entry fee will go to our local food bank here in Rugby.
What do I do once I’ve done my run?
Once you have completed your run email us a screenshot of your Strava, Garmin etc. and a picture with you and your medal and we'll add you to the evolving results page.
How far do I have to run?
There is no minimum distance so it could be a great way to get your kids involved too (minus the alcohol of course!). There is no maximum distance either but only one run counts towards your finish time/distance.
Isn’t this open to lying/abuse?
Of course this requires a bit of honesty on your part but we know we only have lovely runners and no-one could drink a beer with "you've earnt this" on it if they haven't in good faith!!
You have medals with “Salcey Forest” and “Daventry Country Park” on them. Do I have to run there?
No, but if you’re a local why not! Please only visit arks and woodlands that are open and happy to have visitors. Although both of these venues are currently open to locals to get exercise neither of them have open car parks or facilities and are actively discouraging visitors. This may change of course, you may be local too, but we want to be welcomed back to these venues so please be very respectful to their up to date advice.
Do I have to run for 6 hours? Is there a time limit?
No and no! These are your challenges for you to do. If you want to give yourself a medal for a hard 5k excellent. If you want to have it for a 10 hour trek superb, it’s completely up to you. Expect the results table to have a rather large range of times and distances!!
Anything different in your terms compared to your normal events?
Yes!
We will endeavour to send your medal of choice, flapjack and drink of choice as soon as possible when receiving your order, normally within 3 working days. We are trying to limit trips to the post office however for everyone’s safety.
Once you have entered there are no refunds if we have posted your order. If the medal/event you have chosen is no longer available we will ask you to change your medal/event choice, if there isn't one you would like at this point we will offer a refund.
You are responsible for your safety while out on your run and must run within your local government guidelines.
Are the flapjacks vegan, gluten-free, nut free etc?
The flapjacks don’t have any gluten containing ingredients but cannot be labelled gluten free as they are made in the same bakery as gluten containing products. Depending on the type of flapjack the same is true for nuts as well. Rugby Real Bread can make a special batch of vegan flapjacks for us to use, if you require this please make it clear, there may be a slight delay to us posting these ones out to you as it will be a one-off bake for Rugby Real Bread.
