Training Plans
I’m all about helping our runners complete amazing achievements and push themselves further than they knew they could. It doesn’t happen every time (that would be silly!) and sometimes it’s nice to have a plod, chat and cake and we’re here for that too!!
It can be difficult to know where to begin sometimes when you are looking to go further or longer. Our 6 hour events are perfectly suited for this though as you can try and push further but not “fail” if you don’t get there. Managing 20 miles when aiming for your first marathon at our events is going to get you a medal, flapjack and big well done from us, even if you are a little disappointed. Do that at a “normal” marathon and you’ve got to work out how you’ll get to the finish and to be honest you’re made to feel like a loser! Of course you aren’t - you just ran 20 miles!!
So what is the plan? I reached out to Josh of Josh Merrett - Strength and Conditioning to help you move from 10K to half marathon, half marathon to marathon and marathon to ultra-marathon. Josh has a long list of running accomplishments under his belt with ultras being a bit of speciality! He’s run in our events before and wrote a training plan for me to help me beat my target marathon time. Unfortunately he didn’t tell me to pack my trainers but despite being in completely inappropriate footwear I was only just off my goal (with calves ripped to pieces!!)
Josh has put together 3 training schedules that can be followed to help you achieve your goals. They are generic plans and so will help you do better than having no plan at all. As with all “one size fits all” plans they may not be perfect for you. If you want a tailored plan for your specific goals and needs then please contact Josh directly to arrange this. You need to make sure you are taking care of yourself when following the plans, if you are injured or it doesn’t “feel right” then get individual training advice. There is obviously personal responsibility in following these plans and neither JM Performance nor Big Bear Events are responsible for how you use these plans.
If you use the plans we’d love to hear how you get on, let us know!!
