Big Bear Challenge - Virtual Event

Big Bear Challenge
Virtual Event

We’ve missed our runners and events so much over the last year we don’t want you to forget what makes our events special. We’re running this virtual event so you can remember why a Big Bear Event run is so much fun!

What do I get?

We’ll send out an awesome Big Bear Challenge medal to you in the post once you’ve entered the event. We like to send them out before you’ve completed your event so that you can finish your run with your medal waiting for you - like you’d get at our normal events!

What do I need to do?

The idea of this virtual challenge is to remind those who have run with us before the joys of running with Big Bear Events. For those that haven’t run with us yet we’ll give you some tips below on what makes our events special.

It wouldn’t be a Big Bear Event without some laps involved, we normally try to make them 3.3miles but any number would be very Big Bear esque! Our events are predominantly in the woods or country parks too, an ideal Big Bear location. You can’t really do a Big Bear Event without having a smorgasbord of food available, so get your jaffa cakes, battenberg or nutella wraps out and ready! Of course the best bit of a Big Bear Event is the camaraderie between the runners. This is trickier to pull off during lockdown but why not run with a buddy to earn your Big Bear Challenge medal?

Of course if Big Bear Events means something different to you then feel free to run it however you see fit - just make sure to enjoy it and share your pictures with us all!!

How does it work?

The process is simple. You sign up to the event and we will send your package out in the post. Once it arrives it is then up to you when you run your challenge and where you run (within government guidelines of course).

There is no set minimum or maximum distance and the Big Bear Event experience isn’t mandatory, just a nice to do addition! Just make sure you run safely and within your capabilities, we don’t want to be adding to NHS pressures!

Sending the medal and goodies out before you've completed the run means you can be out on your run knowing that the medal is sitting waiting for you at home once you've finished. That extra bit of motivation to get out!

What’s the medal like?

It’s a good one!

You can even get the matching neckwarmer for a discounted fee if you order it when you enter the event.

What does it cost?

The cost including delivery is £13.

The Bear neckwarmer will be discounted to £3.50 (normally £5) if you select it while purchasing your spot.

What do I do once I’ve done my run?

Once you have completed your run use the link in your joining email to upload your results to the leaderboard.

More importantly get on to the Big Bear Events Facebook group and let everyone know what you did to remind you of a Big Bear Event! Pictures are encouraged and we’ll send out some merch spot prizes for the best and most creative ideas.

How far do I have to run?

There is no minimum or maximum distance for this event (but is it a Big Bear event if it’s less than 3.3miles?!). Please stick to the current government guidance though. If Big Bear Events is all about a certain venue you’ll need to find a local alternative. Hopefully this challenge will help mix up your running a little bit!

Can I plant a tree with Trees not Tees instead of getting a medal?

Of course! If you’re looking to get involved in the Big Bear related fun but without the medal then why not let us plant you a tree with Trees not Tees instead. You can select this option during the sign up process.

You can also purchase a tree for £6 in addition to your entry too. You can do this during the sign up process.

Anything different in your terms compared to your normal events?

Yes!

We are trying to limit trips to the post office for everyone’s safety but will look to post medals out every few days.

Once you have entered there are no refunds if we have posted your order.

You are responsible for your safety while out on your run and must run within your local government guidelines.

Do I get a flapjack and beer like at your normal events and the virtual challenge last year?

Unfortunately not! Posting and wrapping 100 beers and flapjacks last summer was a much bigger admin task than we’d planned for! With homeschooling and cold horrible dark weather we’d struggle to offer our expected level of turnaround if we sent the drinks and flapjacks out again. Sorry! Definitely check out Napton Cidery, Rugby Real Bread and Church Farm Brewery though who would definitely welcome your custom and support during this period.

Race No 3 done and a PB to finish with. Absolutely loved doing this night series and can’t wait for the next.
