Coombe 10K

  • Coombe Abbey Park, CV3 2AB (map)

Won’t it be dark?

Sunset is over 1hr50 from the event start… so hopefully not! If the weather is due to be especially gloomy we may suggest head torches if you are likely to finish over 1hr15.

Is this part of your 10K series?

Nope! It’s a special one off event. We may never repeat it… or maybe it’ll be a firm fixture for years to come - we aren’t sure yet. We are at Coombe Abbey during the day for the Swan Challenge and think a Friday night 10K at one of our most popular venues would be worth trying!

Course description

You’ll be running through woodland, meadow and over grass fields. Depending on the weather leading up to the event this could mean muddy, not so muddy or rock hard! There will be exposed trees roots, uneven surfaces and a few gates to navigate but the running will always have a view.

Early May is hard to predict for exact under-foot conditions but even in the wettest of weather Coombe Abbey is rarely a mudfest. The route is undulating but not hilly. A truly great route!

What does it cost?

We operate a tiered pricing approach. The earlier you enter, the cheaper the event but never ever will you pay a booking fee!

Before 13/04/2022 £18

After 13/04/2022 £23

Join the Big Bear Brigade to save 10% on your entry!

Can I run with my dog?

Yes!!

We’ve had great success at events with canicross and we’re pleased to add this event too. You must keep your leads short and be considerate of the other runners. We’ll start the canicross runners off before the main field, around 10 minutes before. Please read our general canicross rules here.

Please make sure you enter the canicross race when you click on the enter button above.

Given the time of year temperature could be a factor. If it is forecast by the Met Office to be above 15C at 7pm we will not allow running with dogs. Your entry will be switched to a non-canicross entry or you can transfer your place. We know every dog is different but this is the point at which we are drawing a line.

Where is it?

Coombe Abbey Park, Coventry is run and managed by Coventry City Council.

Parking costs up £3 for 1-2 hours. There is a toilet block next to the HQ on site.

Coombe Abbey Park (CV3 2AB) is on the outskirts of Coventry and 6 minutes from Junction 2 of the M6. The closest train station is Coventry.

How far is the race?

10k! This might seem a bit pointless to mention given the name but this is different to most of our events at Big Bear. You'll get the same love, a medal and some goodies but you can't run all night!

Permissions

Permission for this event has been obtained Coventry City Council.

I’ve heard you do cupless events?

Yes, but not this time. Unlike our other events we will have some biodegradable cups with water/electrolyte available on the course and we will have hot drinks available before and after too. If you have a foldable cup you can bring, even better but we don't insist on it for our short races.

Has the event been run before?

Yes! We held these events in 2021 and hey were great fun. You can view the results here

I’ve heard you do nice medals. What will it look like?

The medals are in production… once we have images we’ll share them!

I’m not that fussed by a medal, drink and flapjack…

In that case our partnership with Trees Not Tees may be of interest! When you sign up to this event you can select to have no finish line swag and instead we’ll donate the cost of this to Trees Not Tees who will plant a tree in their Scottish woodland on your behalf! You can find more info about this initiative here.

A special 10K at one of the best venues in the Midlands! Come and run 10K with us after you’ve finished work through ancient woodland, past formal gardens and across a large open field to finish. If you’ve never run at Coombe Abbey before this is your opportunity to do so. With sunset at 20:50 you’ll be running towards a setting sun at the perfect venue - running gold!!
