Training plans
I’ve just uploaded some training plans to the site. Many entrants to our events are super experienced runners, however many aren’t or are looking to increase their distances. I’m hoping these plans will help you reach your goals. Having a training plan can really help with focus and help you achieve the outcomes you desire. As with all “off the peg” plans there are improvements that could help you specifically and every venue requires some specificity to training (hill training for anything at Hartshill Hayes for example!) however these plans are a really good basis for your training. See them as a guide to your training, not a holy script to be stuck to like glue!
Oh, and don’t worry, I haven’t written them! No one wants to follow my training!! I asked one of our runners who is a PT and coach, Josh, of JM Performance Coaching to put together these plans for you. He did an excellent plan for me personally to try for a 4hour marathon at the 2019 Abingdon Marathon. It was a great plan and I was in the best form I’d been in for years. Then I forgot my running shoes (nice cushioned Altras) and had to run the marathon in my old barefoot vivobarefoots that I never run in… that wasn’t in the training plan! I was on course to hit my target until the wrong footwear resulted in my calves being torn to shreds in the last 6 miles. The walk to the car was not pretty.
I know we have a lot of PT’s and coaches who run in our events, I’m sure they’re great too! I’m happy to be able to help another local small business (and nice bloke!) after a tough year for us all. Josh is Coventry based but obviously the running coaching can be don remotely with all the tracking and data you can produce. Having a coach isn’t just for the elites. It’s really nice to be able to pass over responsibility of organising your week to someone else! If you want something more tailored to your needs reach out to Josh directly and I’m sure he’ll be able to help. If you’re one of his athletes you can hav a discounted entry in to a Big Bear event too. Win win!!
